King Henry IV

19th A​ugust 1399 - King Richard II of England surrenders to his cousin Henry

Margarete Tudor

August 8th 1502 - Jacobus IV of Scotland marries Margaretha Tudor (King Henry VIII’s sister)

Queen Anne Stuart

1st August 1714 - Anne Stuart, queen of England and Scotland, dies.

King William II

2nd August 1100 - William II, shot in New Forest and killed whilst out hunting.

King Henry I

5th August 1100 - Henry I is crowned King of England in Westminster Abbey

Sir William Wallace

5th August 1305 - William Wallace, who led Scottish resistance to England, is captured by the English near Glasgow and transported to London for trial and execution.

Henry Tudor - King Henry VII

7th August 1485 - Henry Tudor's army lands in Milford Harbor, South Wales

Battle of Bostworthfield

22nd August 1485 - Battle of Bosworth Field - Henry VII's forces defeat Richard III, Richard is killed during the battle and Henry becomes King Henry VII. It is because of what happened to Richard on the battlefield that King Henry VII formed the Yeoman of the Guard (Beefeaters).

John Dudley

22nd August 1553 - John Dudley Duke of Northumberland is beheaded for High treason for trying to place his daughter in law (Lady Jane Grey) on the Throne as Queen and usurping Queen Mary.

William Wallace

23rd August 1305 - William Wallace, is hanged, disemboweled & beheaded at Smithfield London

Martha Turner

Martha Turner was a prostitute in Whitechapple. Her mutilated body was found on 7th August 1888. It was believed that the last person she was with was a soldier from the Garrison within the Tower Over the next three months there would be other victims mutilated and the murderer given the name jack the Ripper.

Richard of Shrewsbury 1st Duke of York

Born on 17th August 1473 Richard of Shrewsbury, 1st Duke of York, younger brother of Prince Edward,(Edward V). The two boy princes were thought to have been killed or ordered to have been killed by their Uncle, Richard III in 1483.

The English Civil war begins

22nd August 1642 Civil War in England began between Royalists & Parliament

August 29th 1387 - Henry V, one of the finest generals in history was born.

King Henry VI

31st August 1422 , becomes King of England at the age of 9 months.
