I hope you all had a great weekend, those of you this side of the pond I hope you had a great long weekend with a fantastic Canada Day ( I did but I think I may have rather over did it with the sun) and for those in the States I hope you're all looking forward to your long weekend to celebrate Independence Day.
I have finally finished populating the One this Day pages, and the Prisoners at the Tower pages; I shall of course be updating these pages each week and adding new prisoners and historical events.
Whilst I've been researching for these pages I have come across some really interesting articles and facts which do make you stop and think, for example on 7th August 1888 the mutilated body of a prostitute called Martha Turner was found in George Yard buildings in Whitechapel, she had been stabbed over 38 times. Martha was last seen on the arm of a soldier and the nearest Garrison to Whitechapel was at the Tower. The Garrison were put on parade so another prostitute could see if she was able to identify the soldier last seen with Martha. Unfortunately after two hours or so she couldn't make a positive identification. Over the next three months further mutilated bodies of prostitutes were found all over the Whitechapel area and all within a short walking distance of the Tower. It makes you think doesn't it, I always used to rib my husband when he was dressed in his Yeoman uniform and cape on rainy days how from the back he could be mistaken for Jack the Ripper, as the silhouette looked like those that were depicted in the press at the time of the murders hmmm...................
Of course I'm not saying that it could have been a Yeoman Warder, but it does make you think doesn't it.
Anyway until next time, take care all,
